message: Connecting people friendship Promotion
There is a small square with a blue background and the letter "f" in white which stands out. This symbol is seen everywhere, it is the symbol for the social network, facebook. This social network that usually is used for promotion, friendship, connecting family and friends of long distance it is the most common social network and it is the social network of the moment.
Facebook, is a social network or a medium known worldwide. Curiously there are many people who would easily recognize facebook and describe what it is and not be able to recognize and describe a famous figure, fact or date. Now a days every business is offering many if not all of their promotions on facebook. In fact many businesses or companies appreciate their costumers or clients more if they are liked or followed on facebook and offer them v.i.p promotions. Not only thay but new merchandise may be even seen before through a facebook account rather on their store catalogue or original website. Also I infer that many companies through out facebook are able to directly hear their costumers' complaints or compliments and reach out to them more directly.
Besides facebook contributing to the economic and business world it also has a major role and participation in the way it contributes to the social world. It is surprisingly amazing how many families have gotten together or have gotten back in contact by this medium. Not only families but friends that have no been acquianted for over years. Facebook has the capacity to be able to share an individual's information and be able to link it, compare it, and expand on further subjects or ideas the individual may like.
That is a really great point about how facebook is used to help business. I tend to forget that when I think of facebook. It also helps businesses in different ways such as being able to find out about an applicant to see if they should be hired. You have the makings of a great essay, just try to connect your points to the medium of the message in how it effects the medium.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize how expansive Facebook was until I saw your comment on how businesses also use Facebook to promote their merchandise and products. But as the same with Sarah's comment make sure you can tie this idea to the "medium is the message" point.
ReplyDeleteYou have good points on what facebook.com is and its affects on society, which is a big part of its message. However, I would recommend that you narrow your topic down a little. Perhaps focus on one aspect of Facebook, such as family or friend reunion, or how it helps businesses. I think that this will make your train of thought and argument easier to follow and understand. Hope this helped a little! :) Good luck and see you in class
ReplyDeleteI also rarely think of how corporations may use Facebook to their advantage. Obviously, Facebook wants to make money as well, so it is in their best interest to help corporations. Thinking about the phrase "The medium is the message" puts a totally different tone to this essay. There are several different ways to take your essay. You could analyse why people choose to communicate over facebook (I know personally when I am speaking to someone thousands of miles away it is much easier online then over the phone) or why/how corporations pressure people into using it, or something...
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you wrote about how companies used Facebook. Facebook to us is just a way to connect with friends and say what is on our minds. However, companies use Facebook as a way to not only connect but to promote as well. Companies that you can "like" often post stories about customers and how happy they are with their experience. You had some really great points!
ReplyDeleteI would suggest push the company/corporations idea further. I would definitely love to hear what you have to say about it!
I think there's a lot of insight that can be gleaned form the influence for Facebook, but at the same time I feel the subject has been done to death. That's not to say you won't be able to write an exceptional paper on Facebook, but use an element of the impact of Facebook that is less obvious. Try to avoid simply discussing the impact of Facebook on social relationships and communication. Either way, you're off to a good start and your rhetoric is spot-on.
