FOX car chase live opinion

I believe that the value of covering events like car chases live is to be able to show the television viewers the severity of the car chases that are going on and to inform the people. I also believe that it is to demonstrate in a way how effective our security system is and show us how the police deal with these types of cases and the security our country has. Therefore, the news are there to inform us, to transmit to the people and inform them what is going on around us. I guess that Fox News was transmitting this car chase to let all those television viewers to be careful if they were planning to head that direction that there was a complicated car chase. I guess it is also with the intention of protecting us.

The type of news stories that I feel should be covered live are like political events, important school events, may be even strikes, events that could possibly put us in danger like catastrophes, or other dangerous events. Also how about some positive events? We usually sit down to see the news and expect to hear all the negativity that is going around nationally and internationally and it would be nice to see some of the good and positive things that are going on nationally and internationally.

The factors that influence what news should show and broadcast would be what give them a higher rating and what the television viewers ask for. Another factor could be the event most heard about at the time, or the event that most affects us and all around us.

I think that what television news programming suggest about popular culture values and what is determined to be shown as news would very much depend on what is going on around our nation. Without trying to cause any controversy I honestly think that if the driver was Hispanic or African American this car chase would have probably been more controversial than what it already is. Reason being is due to all the controversy of the illegal immigrants. I can’t recall from the article where they mention the race of this man, however if we take a look at other cases or incidents where a colored man is involved the first thing that news does is mention the race of the man, in this case they didn’t. I think that a car chase is important to broadcast around the nation just incase it gets out of hands and other authority from other states have to get involved or just incase someone is in danger.

  1. I thought that you had a really interesting view of why they put the live police chases on television. I just wonder if the newfound trust placed on the compentacy of the police from catching the person making the car chase could crumble just as easily as it was built if the police are unable to catch the person causing the car chase in the first place.

    1. Thank you, that is true its a good point to think about but if we think about it on all those programs about polize and programs like true tv they never really show live chases where the police men fail to get the criminal.

  2. You make good points about the need to inform the public if that public is endangered by a traffic or crime situation in progress. What is interesting about this car chase situation is that it was broadcast nationwide - not just to viewers in the Phoenix area. A good question to ask is: How is this news important for those around the country to see live? How is it more pressing as "news" than other events and situations occurring in the nation and world?

  3. I agree with what you're saying. News is there to inform people of whats going on not only around them but also globally. People need to be educated with whats going on in the world and watching or reading news is a great way to obtain this knowledge.

    1. Yeah we do need to be educated maybe by showing this car chase and see how other people react on the road to the circumstances and be ready if they ever have to experience anything similar to it.

  4. I think you have an interesting point. While it is important to show citizens that they police forces are capable and able to protect them, I kind of think that using forces to show citizens this in the way of a car chase takes away from other news that will benefit more people. A car chase is meant to get ratings, while broadcasting something like a convict escaping is something that all citizens need to know in order to protect themselves and their families.

  5. I don't knowww. I don't see very much positive in this situation. I understand society needs the feeling of security and showing the police take down a crazed driver is a big plus but how many people heard about the teen shot in Anaheim. The community came together for a peaceful demonstration and the cops(none of which live in the area) opened fire with rubber bullets and released dogs on women and children. Furthermore if the news was really trying to inform the public why would they put it on TV? Unless you are watching and about to drive down that very road then most likely you don't have time to chill and watch the news in between errands. I think this is a scare tactic to teach people not to mess with the cops because you will never win. If news was truth then they would also air the live chases where the person gets away.
