Political Essay Rough Draft

November is here and along with it we have many candidates running for office and hoping to be part of our government for the following year. Running for office turns into a hunting game, a race, a knock out therefore, any move is valid in political campaigns, especially the move of discrediting the opponent, revealing his mistakes, and brainwashing the voters. Ladies and gentlemen get ready to witness the 2012 elections, and get ready to count the most knockouts towards each party and determine who will be the winner.

Several months before elections are here, the voters are able to notice and analyze throughout the country many billboards, commercials, announcements, handouts, phone calls, debates, news, social network conversations, songs, videos and much more and be able to decide for who they will vote next. All these types of announcements contain a powerful text that at some point and some how will reach the attention of every voter and have them analyze and think about a candidate’s actions and possible actions for this country’s future. Therefore it is the job of many political supporters to fill the voter’s head with negative ideas, mistakes, of the opposing party to discredit the opposite candidate’s image among the voters. The closer we are towards election’s arrival, the more aggressive and direct these announcements become. Not only do we see incivility among the voters with their discussions, arguments, and expressions but we also see it among the political candidates themselves. Therefore that is when it becomes the political supporters and campaigns to put up billboards on important and most transited streets to catch the attention of many and lead their thoughts towards their favored candidate.

A billboard placed in Athens, Alabama in a transited street says the following, “If you voted for our current president in 2008 to prove you weren’t a racist, please vote for someone else in 2012 to prove you’re not an idiot. Thank you…….. Concerned Citizens of America” (the underlined words are marked in red). The message placed on the billboard has a lot to say to the voters and although some may see it funny, realistic, point proving, and truthful many other citizens may see it very insulting. First of all this billboard obviously transmits the message to the citizens or voters that our current president did not meet the expectations that the country had for him. Therefore, the association, people, or who ever put this billboard up is obviously not going to vote for our current president, Barack Obama. Second of this entire billboard mentions “if you voted for our current president in 2008 to prove you weren’t racist”, leading the message that the only reason that we vote is to prove such ideas to one another. This line also infers that the only reason why we voted for Obama is because we felt sorry for him because he was African American, to prove ourselves and those around us that we are not racist and last because we are idiots who will just follow the current and vote for the candidate that the rest of the people will vote for.

short rough draft

message: Connecting people friendship Promotion
There is a small square with a blue background and the letter "f" in white which stands out. This symbol is seen everywhere, it is the symbol for the social network, facebook. This social network that usually is used for promotion, friendship, connecting family and friends of long distance it is the most common social network and it is the social network of the moment.
Facebook, is a social network or a medium known worldwide. Curiously there are many people who would easily recognize facebook and describe what it is and not be able to recognize and describe a famous figure, fact or date. Now a days every business is offering many if not all of their promotions on facebook. In fact many businesses or companies appreciate their costumers or clients more if they are liked or followed on facebook and offer them v.i.p promotions. Not only thay but new merchandise may be even seen before through a facebook account rather on their store catalogue or original website. Also I infer that many companies through out facebook are able to directly hear their costumers' complaints or compliments and reach out to them more directly.

Besides facebook contributing to the economic and business world it also has a major role and participation in the way it contributes to the social world. It is surprisingly amazing how many families have gotten together or have gotten back in contact by this medium. Not only families but friends that have no been acquianted for over years. Facebook has the capacity to be able to share an individual's information and be able to link it, compare it, and expand on further subjects or ideas the individual may like.

FOX car chase live opinion

I believe that the value of covering events like car chases live is to be able to show the television viewers the severity of the car chases that are going on and to inform the people. I also believe that it is to demonstrate in a way how effective our security system is and show us how the police deal with these types of cases and the security our country has. Therefore, the news are there to inform us, to transmit to the people and inform them what is going on around us. I guess that Fox News was transmitting this car chase to let all those television viewers to be careful if they were planning to head that direction that there was a complicated car chase. I guess it is also with the intention of protecting us.

The type of news stories that I feel should be covered live are like political events, important school events, may be even strikes, events that could possibly put us in danger like catastrophes, or other dangerous events. Also how about some positive events? We usually sit down to see the news and expect to hear all the negativity that is going around nationally and internationally and it would be nice to see some of the good and positive things that are going on nationally and internationally.

The factors that influence what news should show and broadcast would be what give them a higher rating and what the television viewers ask for. Another factor could be the event most heard about at the time, or the event that most affects us and all around us.

I think that what television news programming suggest about popular culture values and what is determined to be shown as news would very much depend on what is going on around our nation. Without trying to cause any controversy I honestly think that if the driver was Hispanic or African American this car chase would have probably been more controversial than what it already is. Reason being is due to all the controversy of the illegal immigrants. I can’t recall from the article where they mention the race of this man, however if we take a look at other cases or incidents where a colored man is involved the first thing that news does is mention the race of the man, in this case they didn’t. I think that a car chase is important to broadcast around the nation just incase it gets out of hands and other authority from other states have to get involved or just incase someone is in danger.

Imprudent Ads

For over years we have had advertisements entering our homes, our spaces and invading our ears and eyes with what they need to sale, announce, or promote. They have entered our homes by the help of our television, entered our cars in compliance of the radio, our quiet reading moments with their imprudence on magazines. Advertisers along with their advertisement have found all sorts of sneaky ways to reach the consumers and enter our lives in all sorts of ways. If we really think about this they are all around us trying to convince us that their product is the best. Honestly we don’t get any rest from all the advertisements that we see daily. Therefore that is when as consumers we begin to have less control of our privacy. It is surprisingly outstanding how advertisers care so much about the consumer’s perspective that they begin to profile the consumers and in a way analyze a consumers moves, and by moves I mean the way we shop, where we shop, how much, and with what companies. Which this makes it easier for all those companies to reach us, the consumers directly and be able to provide all our attention to what “we need” and what they are intending to sell.

However, we can’t all blame it on companies that are invading our privacy with all these advertisements that curiously we need. We as consumers, have that right of protecting our privacy by certain methods. For example, there are many more places now that ask for the costumers email in order to receive discounts, coupons, and notices of when these stores might have sales or new arrivals, and this is all done by email. An email that contains for most of us our full name, sometimes address and many times it is even connected to a social website such as facebook or twitter. To be able to avoid these types of privacy invasion how about we don’t give our email? Emails that contains much about us, along with other stores we have already signed up for. Also like mentioned in, Advertising Gets Personal by Samuel Greengard if we don’t use any of our credit cards it is less likely for these companies to follow us and track our shopping. Luckily we are still able to avoid some of these types of invasion privacies, however, what will happen later when everything continues to advance and everything is done by technology and systems that profile the consumers and follow their shopping procedures to categorize them and “provide their best products”.

Not only do these advertisers profile us, the consumers, when we shop for/with their companies and we buy their products, they also profile us on the way they advertise. On most of their advertisements they stereotype everything and judge consumers by, their race, gender, or age. Although these might reflect harmful stereotypes consumers and viewers tend to be attracted by these commercials and ads and unfortunately it is due to these harmful stereotypes that we tend to remember the commercials and the products.

Carls Jr Commercials

Okay so I know this image is a little too sexy, however, what caught my attention is the fact that these young ladies, with great well taken bodies are eating a Six Dollar Burger from Carls Jr. First of all these burgers look super good and build up a hunger and whim. Just by seeing these commercials I think of eating a Six Dollar Burger that is messy when you eat it, the meat is really big, and well the taste is extraordinary! However, when I see this commercial I begin to think why these sexy ladies all the time? Is it to appeal to men's eye? Is it to demonstrate that women also may eat these types of big burgers? Why is there so much provocations in their commercials? Although this commercial always makes me crave Carls Jr and their chili cheese fries when I go there I never end up getting this Six Dollar Burger because of the size of it and because of the great amount of calories, therefore it leads me to think that these models will never eat these Six Dollar burgers, if it is not part of their job.

Reflecting on Popular Culture

Over the past two weeks that we have been looking at the subject popular culture I realized that this subject can be more complicated and very detailed than what we simply named or described our first day of school. I have noticed and learned about a lot of different factors that contribute to our popular today that I would have never imagined before. Although I do find some subjects a little hard and confusing to understand I am very intrigued to continue looking into the various aspects that make popular culture and how it has changed over years. In reference to the article I was very surprised when I read that “women had helped to construct a culture and that they ironically did the dirty work of their society”. Not only the fact that ironically did the dirty work but also the fact that it is mentioned that women helped construct a culture. Honestly I thought that back then women weren’t recognized at all especially in the construction of something big for the society. Also another thing that caught my attention the most from the article was the example of Mickey Mouse being important to understand the Great Depression as well as Franklin Roosevelt. I have to admit that many ideas seem complicated to understand but I am learning a little more as I go along.
